The California Franchise Tax Board made very few changes for the 2016 tax year. California continues to offer several of the same credits as they have in years past, including the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child and Dependent Care Credit, and the Renter's Credit.
A new California Motion Picture and Television Production Credit is now available, in addition to the original credit. The new credit is certified by the California Film Commission (CFC) for qualified expenses related to the production of motion pictures or television series within California.
You can also now claim a subtraction for income earned on a Native American reservation in which you live using Form 3504. This form will need to be signed by someone in authority within the tribal government to claim this subtraction.
