The New York Department of Taxation and Finance made some changes to their 2016 tax laws. Many tax credits have been extended, meaning taxpayers can keep claiming them for a few more years. In particular, the Noncustodial Parent Earned Income Credit has been permanently extended. This credit was originally due to expire on December 31, 2016. The New York State standard deduction and tax rate schedules have been adjusted to reflect the cost of living adjustment. Taxpayers can now contribute any whole dollar amount to a new Voluntary Contribution, the Autism Awareness and Research Fund.
Beginning in tax year 2016, if the New York Tax Department receives information that a taxpayer has improperly claimed a Recoupment of School Tax Relief (STAR) exemption, the department may issue a levy or lien against any New York State personal income tax refund that the taxpayer claims.
We make filing your state return easy. After preparing your federal return your information is carried forward to your New York return. In a matter of minutes both federal and state tax returns are ready to be e-filed. If you prefer, you can print and mail your return.
